The signs greeted us everywhere at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The guide had forewarned us about the rampant problem at this majestic structure. It is easy to watch your pocket, and be extra cautious, when the writing is literally on the wall.
It’s a lot tougher when companies dip into your pocket, in plain sight, and there is nothing you can do about it. Case in point – Aer Lingus (The Irish Airline). On a short hop within Europe, my ticket was only 100 Euros, but the cost of one extra checkin bag? 200 Euros. The message was simple. We will pick your pocket, and there is nothing you can do about it. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Why do companies pick our pockets leaving us feeling helpless? They should proceed with care. When we start holding on tight to our wallets, that’s when they start going out of business.
