Neat perspective on effective communication, shared by Frances Frei, a Professor at Harvard Business School. Here are the two alternatives:
1) Tell a compelling story, by painting a vivid picture to arrive at the point you were trying to make all along.
Or,
2) Start off by communicating the key point and then build the story around it, one step at a time, to bring it to life.
In the first scenario, people either get distracted, or someone else steps in to steal your thunder. In the second, you made your point. Period. And the justification makes it real.
Which one defines your communication style? I like the second perspective. Time to practice it in the classroom.
