Education For All

VPK

Initially, when I heard about the Free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) program coming to Florida I was worried. Was the government trying to usurp Early Childhood Programs? I even voted against it in the elections to follow.

However, then Gene Flick from the Early Coalition Office opened my eyes when she stopped by my school one day. What a wonderful opportunity our state was trying to offer for our children! I was ashamed of my initial condescending attitude. Having children well prepared for Kindergarten is my primary goal.

Previously many families could not even think of a Montessori Education for their children, it was beyond their pocket book, but VPK opened new doors, and opportunities for many children. I am blessed to have many children taking advantage of this wonderful program from affluent and underprivileged homes –no discrimination here.  Children from foster homes, and children who are underprivileged are enjoying a great Montessori Education.  It is a wonderful feeling to being able to give back to the community. I love my four-year-olds!

I urge more Montessori schools to offer this program to the millions of children who can’t afford it. Close scrutiny and regulation by the State helps raise our standards and do the best for our darling children.

These children need our love, learning and nurturing.
They are our future, after all.
