Giving Tuesday starts tomorrow. It kicks off the charitable season for the holidays and teaches us to truly give back to people who are less fortunate. It doesn’t have to be monetary — giving money is the easy part.
A simple card, a hand made ornament, a helpful gesture, or a warm meal are a few ways of creating awareness, kindness, generosity and mindfulness amongst ourselves and among our children.
Let us teach our children to give back to the less fortunate, every day, and twice on Tuesdays. Our Christmas trees at school have a box set aside underneath it for our children and families to support people who are suffering, or have very little this holiday season.
One charity we support is the Hope Lodge by the American Cancer Society. Hope Lodge, is a non-medical residential facility designed to offer housing, emotional support and referral services. These are free of charge to any cancer patient, and their family, who travels to the Tampa Bay area for treatment.
Our children have been making cards for patients, collecting supplies, gift cards and Christmas decorations so we can provide a glimmer of hope to many patients and their families. There are innumerable ways to give back during this holiday season. What is your favorite charity, and how do you plan to give back starting tomorrow?
