As August 15th approaches, I reminisce of my beautiful childhood in India. Independence Day is so surreal. We sang the Indian National Anthem and recited the Preamble, and our hearts swelled with pride. I am so proud of my Indian heritage. The innocence and simplicity of my youth defined the person I am today.
Even though I have lived in America for 23 years, I am, and always will be, an Indian at heart. My roots are engrained in my psyche and every ounce of my being. I miss my family and at times reflect on the sacrifices of being so far away. Was it worth It? On certain days I am not sure.
America is my home now, but India will always have my heart.
Time to hit the chicken curry! Happy Independence Day.
Happy Swatantra divas, or Happy Independence Day. Jai Bharat Mata!
