International Literacy Day

child reading

Yesterday, we celebrated National Literacy Day.

We encourage our precious Montessorians to enjoy reading books on a daily basis. They love both fiction and non-fiction books. Some popular books are about Dinosaurs, Snakes, and Automobiles. Most are well read and often have to be repaired in our little “book infirmary.”

Every day, we have quiet reading time during which the children read, to get focused, aligned and centered to start the day.  They love to bring books from home to share too.  They are often disappointed when we don’t get to read all of them. We recently had to order more book cabinets as our little library is bursting at the seams.

It is a great time to get the children a library card and encourage them to read as many books as they can in a week. As Dr. Seuss aptly states: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places, you’ll go.”
