Competence in our educational work place goes beyond not only teaching our dear children but in nurturing and developing our teachers who work tirelessly to make the formative educational years of our children so wonderful. Our staff do more than they are required. For this I am blessed. They are the reason for our success.
Part of my job is to mentor my teachers, assess their strengths, guide them, and nurture them.
As a leader, I pride myself on being fair, not get involved in gossip, not make assumptions and giving my team the benefit of the doubt. Each one of us is unique and each one is wired differently. It is important to put yourself in another individual’s shoes and not be judgmental.
Over the years, I have learned to mellow down and not fly off the handle if things don’t go my way. I have learned to be more tolerant, positive, and not panic. Power is not controlling everything — power is giving strength to others and allowing them to blossom.
