Raising future green thumbs

green-thumb

My goal as an educator is to develop and nurture our future green thumbs, and make them into the best gardeners and farmers.

Education begins in the garden. Tilling the soil, enjoying the fresh air, and making the earth worms do the squiggle dance are a joy. The children love watering and tending to their plants. Weeding is their all time favorite activity, much to my surprise. It is truly a Sensorial experience where sight, smell, touch, sound and taste are involved.

Fall is here, you can feel it in the air. We want our precious children to see the whole life cycle of a plant evolve from a seed. The Montessorians must learn to appreciate how long it takes for for fruit and vegetables too grow. They will think twice before they throw away an apple and choose a candy bar from their lunch box.

I am always in trouble with my husband for having dirt and tools in my car. You never know when a child wants to garden. In the prepared Montessori environment, I must be ready at all times. I am always ready with the digging tools, bags of dirt and seeds.

It is time to garden with my little friends. I love you all, I want to share my passion with you.
