Smoke and Mirrors

It’s been a little more than a week since the Bollywood Awards bit the dust. Unfortunately, the dust left a bitter taste in the mouth.

The event management was a perfect example of mismanagement and of how not to treat customers who pay top dollars. Over 25,000 people bought individual tickets ranging from $200 to $3000. The gates opened 3 hours late. Movie fans sat on the ground and scattered around the stadium looking for some respite from the heat. No water, no food, no shade. No movie stars, until it was almost too dark outside to see them.

Welcome to Bollywood!

Concessions in the stadium served beef hotdogs and burgers. Someone clearly did not get the memo. Hindu — no beef — holy cow. Cultural Studies 101.

The event kicked off at 10pm and went on till almost 4 am. Rohini and I left at 10:45pm. The others we talked to complained about the delays, the lack of essential services, and exhausted children.

Not how you treat your customers. Or your fans.
Pointless asking for a refund — they are using that money to make and sell dreams.
