Many moons ago when I lived in India, an acquaintance, who was a Reserve in the US Army, gave my family the American Flag as a gift — much to my disappointment. A few years later I moved as a 24 year old to the US. Over the years, the flag has become symbolic of my American dream.
Seeing what this great country has done for me has made me love the flag, and all what it represents. America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. I feel truly blessed. I love the red, white, and blue. The fifty stars and thirteen stripes make my heart swell with pride. Listening to the National Anthem is always a moment of quiet reflection, and gratitude.
Everyday I teach the children about the proper flag etiquette. “Be respectful, stand tall, and be proud,” I tell them, “you have no idea how blessed we are!”
This Saturday, as I celebrate Flag Day, I salute this great country. I love America.
