Zika

zika

I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to Laurie Garrett, Senior Fellow for Global Health, Council on Foreign Relations. She is a Pulitzer Prize Winning Science Journalist and Author.

It was a true learning experience and I learned so much about the global epidemic of communicable disease such as Zika, and Ebola, among others.

I want to teach my children the importance of self hygiene, starting with hand-washing, with purpose.

Sometimes we get some resistance from working parents when children are sent him due to illness at the schools. We try our very best to enforce a wellness policy, but some parents get annoyed. Sick staff are told to go home and not infect others.

It is worrisome when parents choose not to get their children inoculated due to some blind myth. This is putting us all at risk. Parents are concerned about Zika and rightfully so. The lousy politicians in Washington are not doing anything to provide funding for research.

Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, are pledging billions of dollars for humanitarian causes and supporting research to eradicate communicable diseases among children. Hats off to Melinda Gates, who personally travels to India and has played a big role in the eradication of polio through vaccines and immunization and truly caring for children.

More people have died due to disease such as the plague, tuberculous, measles, influenza, and dengue, than all the wars over hundreds of years. What can we do to help prevent these illnesses, and save the lives of precious children?
