In a time of transient talent, where jobs rarely last a few years, I just completed 30 years at UT. 31, actually, but whose counting?
The young brash guy, in the rear view mirror, has given way to a seasoned compassionate teacher. Time does that to us — we grow and we mellow.
My “kids” that sat in my classes when I started are now more than fifty years old!! I have taught thousands of students over the years, but my passion to mould young minds remains.
Most importantly, I love UTAMPA, and consider myself to be a “lifer”. UT has been home and allowed me to hone my craft as a teacher. I love the people — most of them — and warmly embrace the charged energy of my young students, who touch my life as much as I touch theirs.
Not sure how much longer I will shape and teach young minds. As long I create value, and am relevant, I will continue. Or I will quietly walk over the horizon of academia, and find a new calling as a teacher.
