A Birthday Perspective

As I celebrated my “I don’t want to get any older,” day, love and pampering from my family got the day started. The children at all 3 Montessori schools sang with gusto. A lavish luncheon from the teachers with presents to boot, including the proverbial premium tequila, topped the afternoon. And the 100’s of messages from students and friends from around the world were icing on the cake. Thank you to all those who made it special.

As I sip my fine birthday wine, I have deep gratitude for my lot in life. I like my place, with my people, on my terms. I don’t envy those with more, yet reach out to try and do more for those with less.

The funny thing about age is that we think about it on these special days, or when the aches and pains become part of life, or especially when the doctor tells me a lot about what not to do.

For today, I practice gratitude, and count my blessings. The wine is divine. The sense of euphoria is warm and engulfing. I am ready to take on the next year with a passion and drive that will make the last year seem banal. I excitedly await the new tomorrow
