The Brazilian Executives flew home after a week at The University of Tampa. Their busy schedule was filled with classes, company visits, and a boat tour of the Port of Tampa. The week was topped off by a lavish banquet to celebrate their accomplishments.
One common theme? Their deep appreciation for all our efforts. They relished the university cafeteria food with as much gusto as they did the fine steak dinner. They applauded generously for the speakers and thanked us profusely for every little gesture by my team. The maddening rains, and administrative hiccups, did not dampen their enthusiasm. They celebrated with fervor and soaked in the experience.
We need to learn to do more of that here, in America. We have a culture of complaining, demanding, and having unrealistic expectations, because we are ‘paying for it’.
Happiness is about perspective, and about keeping it real. About finding the goodness in people and their efforts. Maybe a culture of appreciation will radiate a positive energy that will allow all of us to bask in joyous celebration.
