A Different Lens

A dear friend and I spoke at length about his 16 year old son with severe autism. I could sense the weight of the world on his shoulders. Not sure how one is supposed to cope with that cruel set of cards that life deals to them.

I listened patiently to his son’s and the family’s challenges and his daily worries on who would take care of his son when he was no more. Talk about perspective. It’s not supposed to be this way. We are supposed to raise our sons and daughters to enable them to make their own lives. And thrive.

After a few hours with him, one thing became exceeding clear. We have no problems. We have no stress. It is all relative. We must look at life through their lens. Grades and money and daily ailments fade quickly in comparison to the cruel hand of fate that has one family reeling. The sad part? It’s way more common than we think.

In some uncanny way, all the pieces of a beautiful life are right there — they just don’t fit the way they are supposed to…..
Life can be so cruel sometimes.
