A Do-Over, Please…

I’d like a do-over, please. Go back to the last day of 2019 and keep alive the promise of the year that lay ahead. It’s been a difficult year, for so many, in so many ways.

The fact is that we can’t rewind life, or fast forward it for that matter. For now, we must adapt and adjust to the new normal. “Nice mask” is the new compliment on people’s lips. Six feet apart, the new norm.

People are wary of each other. Race relations have been turned topsy turvy. In some ways, we have gone back in time — treating people of color with disdain, and cruelty. Our political leadership has failed us, and the common woman and man has had to rise and fight for justice.

What went wrong with our world? Where did the kindness and consideration disappear? We are cooped up in our homes, isolated in multiple ways. From family, from friends, from the communities in which we live and play.

The hope is that this too shall pass — that a new dawn will bring with it, new possibility, new promises and renewed hope. Tomorrow is a brand new day. Let’s make the most of God’s most precious gift — a life with purpose.
