I recently read that more battles are lost because of ego, than strategy, or tactical failure. Yes, EGO. Three letters that have the potential to ruin relationships, business decisions, and just about everything else.
Watch Ric Elias, on his Ted talk about the lessons he learned when he thought he was about to die. Ric was in the plane that crashed in the Hudson in 2009. One key lesson he learned was to put his ego on hold. The result? He never had an argument with his wife ever again. He also started collecting bad wine, as he drank all the good ones like there was no tomorrow, but that is a post for another day.
Ironically, ego can be a really good thing. The truth is that no one will ever believe in you, unless you believe in yourself. That too is a manifestation of ego. Rarely do people succeed when they sense failure, or have a confidence problem.
Ego is a double edged sword. Wisdom stems from knowing when to use it, and when to keep it in check. When to hold on, and went to let go.
