Good bye hurricane Irma. While our area was spared, there are many that were not so fortunate. The river across the street from us crested at 22 feet — the highest it has been in over 57 years. Craziness was the rule of law. Long lines for water, and gas, and toilet paper. Not sure about the last one, but no judgement here. My heart goes out to those whose homes and dreams, and lives, have been turned topsy turvy, in our communities. And for everyone in the path of Harvey & Irma who experienced the wrath of Mother Nature. That’s enough hurricanes for this season.
We lost power for about 40 hours, had a house full of people and 8 dogs riding out the storm together. As my home went dark, so did my blog. I was too focused on protecting the folks I love.
Funny how potential disasters create perspective on what’s truly important. And “stuff” is not part of the equation.
In a strange way, as we rode out the storm together, I spent more quality time with those that matter, than during a normal span of time. I have a deep sense of gratitude that we were spared. As the engine of life starts a slow churn to normalcy, I have a new appreciation for the fragility of life and the importance of making every day count.
