It’s a fundamental rule of business. Don’t try and be all things to all people. Figure out your core competency and stick to what you do well.
As Edward Felten brilliantly articulates, “The problem – when you cast your net that wide – is you inevitably catch something you don’t want to catch.”
It’s a little bit like throwing mud against the wall. Ultimately, something sticks. However, it has little meaning, and almost no lasting impact.
