A Meal vs a Snack

bagel

The NCAA (the body that overseas collegiate athletic in the US) concludes that if a university offers a student a bagel it is a snack. Slap a dab of cream-cheese on it and it becomes a meal. Why the debate?

Universities are allowed to feed student athletes only 3 square meals a day, but unlimited snacks. The university is is violation of policy if they don’t hold the cream-cheese.

This was the general discussion with the CEO of the NCAA before they overturned this ridiculous rule after two years of meetings. The catalyst for the change was a high profile basketball player who complained he went to bed hungry most nights. The CEO insisted that the timing of the complaint and the rule change was coincidental. I think not. By the way, the CEO looked extremely well fed. (Time to hit the gym sir!)

What does it say about the NCAA cartel that the very athletes that generate hundreds of millions of dollars and pay executives fat salaries go to bed hungry?

I thought they abolished slavery and bonded labor eons ago, or did i miss the memo?

America got this wrong, and that is a shame.
