A Sad Day

Four years ago we attended his wedding and celebrated the love, dreams and aspirations of a new couple beginning a life together. Today, we sat in worship at his memorial service — the same young man taken too early in a tragic accident

My heart goes out to my buddy, and his family, who lost his beloved son. A young man left behind a young family and broken hearts. The fragility and cruelty of life left behind so many broken pieces, that those broken hearts may never be whole again.

There are no words that provide comfort, that ease the pain, that create some sense of perspective. At times like these, words ring hollow.  Yes, he is walking the heavens, but his wife and baby boy are left without their rock. How does one make sense of that?

Today was a sad day. Over time, most of us will go back to our lives. They however, will have to muster the courage to pick up the pieces and find reasons to live and love again. And the void will never be filled. And that is what breaks my heart for their family.
