Abusing the System

ada

According to the US Department of Labor, “The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, and governmental activities.”

One individual in a wheel chair has chosen to abuse the system. His modus operandi? Look for hotels and public pools that do not have a ‘pool lift’, and then sue these companies for large sums of money.

As of last count, according to one legal counsel, he has over 200 pending law suits against hotel operators — and that’s when we does not stay there. He drives around looking for a way to milk the system. Most companies settle out of court, and pay significant amounts in attorney fees and punitive damages. He is probably packing in a bundle. No wonder all lawyers get a bad name!

Anything wrong with this picture?   Accommodating those with a disability is our civic responsibility. Allowing people to cream the system for personal monetary gain should be unacceptable and subject to prosecution.
