I heard an elderly voice on the other end of the telephone as we planned a university event. To respect his privacy, I will call him “Adam”.
Adam had devoted the last twelve years of his life taking care of his wife, who recently passed away. His voice quivered, albeit for a second, before he composed himself and we spoke about the business at hand.
As I ended the conversation, I couldn’t help but think about this gentleman who had devoted more than a decade taking care of his ill wife. Putting his dreams and aspirations on hold to care for her.
That’s love. True love. Not the fleeting love based on good times and unbridled pleasure, but the kind of love that is based on devotion, sacrifice and riding out the storm. If and when you find that kind of love, count your blessings. I have that kind of love in my life. I wish the same for you.
