Facebook is abuzz with media reports on sexual assaults on young women on college campuses in the US and the ‘drug culture’ that is a cancer at universities and colleges across the country. The irony is that most of those who weigh in, with glee, at the shredding of the moral fabric in this country, have never stepped into this beautiful country. I have spent close to 30 years on college campuses across America and the facts don’t match the rhetoric.
America has its share of problems, like any other country, but to stereotype an entire nation as criminals and addicts is insulting and unfair. There are millions of hardworking and responsible people in this country who focus on raising their families and their children to be responsible and compassionate adults.
Sometimes American foreign policy is treated synonymously with the views of the American people. I think the two are not necessarily aligned, and should certainly not be confused as being the same.
Sometimes poor generalizations result in shallow stereotypes not based in fact, or fiction for that matter. Excessively fertile imaginations ruin reputations and generate negativity. Next time, please do your homework and then jump to judgment.
I love this beautiful country and am blessed to call it home.
