We have all been on the losing end of some type of competitive endeavor. Losing hurts, especially when one cares about the outcome. We taught our kids, from the little league days, to shake hands, say “good game” to the winners and try harder the next time up.
We were taught that losing with grace was as important as winning with humility. Losing does not make us losers. That bastion is reserved for those who blame everyone, and everything, for getting beat at their own game.
How we react to wins and losses says a lot about us as people. The good ones know how to handle both with charm and character.
