Your intellectual ability has little to do with your emotional intelligence. I know some incredibly bright people who lose their composure when things don’t go their way, or people don’t see the world from their perspective.
Research shows that a lack of emotional intelligence has the potential to negatively impact ones physical and mental health, and, more importantly impact ones personal relationships and performance at work.
The good news is that reducing stress, fighting the urge to always be right, and learning to accept alternative view points are important first steps that can anchor emotional stability. The goal is to let go of the noise and the ‘little stuff’ and focus positive energy on what’s important.
A position of authority does not automatically manifest itself into emotional intelligence. On the contrary, power creates arrogance and creates an egotistical chip on the shoulder. Stay humble, stay stable, and focus on the human side of life.
