Attack Ads

political-ads

It is open season on the campaign trail as the attack ads are flooding the airwaves. Very little about the truth, or an agenda for meaningful change. The piranhas are on a feeding frenzy and nothing is sacred, or safe. That’s how one wins elections. Play the blame game.

The sad part? These ads work.
Why? If we see messaging on a repetitive basis, we believe it to be true.
The sound bites we hear are strategically placed to malign and discredit.

Human psychology shows that we are subject ourselves to selective retention, selective distortion, and selective perception. Simply put, we remember what we want to remember, distort information to suit our needs, and believe what we choose to believe.

Take the imagery and the TV ads with a pinch of salt. Or better still, ignore them all together. The search for truth is more complex. And it takes a tad more effort than believing everything you see or hear.
