There are few athletes that have captured the imagination of the sporting world more than Tiger Woods. From the glory days to the bowels of disgrace, to four back surgeries, to an incredible comeback.
His spot in the winners circle is still waiting, but there has rarely been an athlete who can energize the golf diehards. Most of us took a hiatus from watching golf when he was out of the game the past few years. Now the fans are back. Today was a great reminder of his genius. And his impact on the sport.
This time around, I route as much for Tiger the man. As I do for Tiger the golfer. Older, more mature, kids in tow, this renewed man is one for the ages. Yes, he has had his share of failures, but who hasn’t? On the course, he is Houdini like with his shot making. One has to play the game to appreciate his true genius and dominance. There is a reason why the pundits call it the “Tiger effect”.
At the end, who are we to sit in judgement about any man’s (or woman’s) transgressions? For now, as a fan, I celebrate the genius and the magic. Go get em Tiger!
