Soft spoke and unassuming, Becky seemed to have the weight of the world on her shoulders. She has a twenty two year old son with special needs. His medical and psychological challenges aside, Becky seemed to be laser focused on his daily care.
I asked her how she found the strength to navigate this twenty two year old journey — “he is my son”, she said softly, resigned to her circumstances. I walked away from our conversation with deep respect and admiration for a lady who has put her life on hold for more than twenty years. That’s what we do for love of family, and the love of our children.
Being a caregiver is a selfless act, with zero expectation of reward or recognition — or that’s how it should be. Why does life test our will and our fortitude? I wish I could bottle Becky’s quiet strength, and tap into her steely resolve.
This is so sweet! Becky is one if my closest friends & you your description of her is so accurate! I’ve been friends w/Becky & George for almost 30 years. Their strength as parents has always amazed me! They have a beautiful family & they have worked so hard to create the best life possible for their children. ❤️
