A young black man, jogging in his neighborhood, was shot to death by two white, self-proclaimed vigilantes. It took more than two months and heightened public outrage for the killers to be arrested. Another instance where color bestows privilege in America.
The young man would have celebrated his 26th birthday this past week, and his mother mourns this Mother’s Day for the senseless loss of her son. I can’t imagine her grief or her anger or her disbelief. As parents, we just can’t let our minds go there.
What is wrong with us? Why is racism still prevalent in this country? Why must black families live in fear that their sons may not come home?
