I have often wondered if leadership can be taught effectively. Always the skeptic, I think the answer lies in the approach to leadership education.
I think the goal is to build self-awareness in people so that they accumulate intellectual capital and build emotional intelligence.
Few, if any, are born as leaders, and education in the area should focus on honing communication and interpersonal skills.
Building credibility goes beyond completing a course of study – it takes patience, effective mentors, and deep immersion into the right type of programs
that promote reflection and introspection. You can’t be an effective leader till those you lead trust you, admire you, and feel inspired.
And it takes a lot more than a certificate or a degree on the wall to fuel inspiration in others.
