Change Causes Pain

change

I was talking to my students about the fact that I had a new personal trainer, Jeffery, and how every muscle in my body hurt. This is attributable to serious muscle confusion that stems from a new workout routine. Trainer – 1; Me – 0.

It is ironic that one of my favorite bloggers, Seth Godin, posted yesterday about how people hate change. I don’t hate my trainer, just the pain. Fortunately, as a wise man once said “pain is temporary, quitting is forever”.

The key thing about organizational change is that, as the corporate muscles get used to a new regiment, the pain disappears and a healthier, more robust organization emerges. Unfortunately, meaningful change takes time, but Rome was certainly not built in a day.
