Dance the Tango

Tango

In the times of old, the Gaucho’s (Latin cowboys) came into town looking for pleasure. The Ladies danced with mesmerizing movement to entice these men. The Tango was born as a dance of foreplay in the days gone by and transcended into an exotic art form in the local tourist streets and quiet dance halls tucked away in nondescript alleys of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

During our visit to Buenos Aires, the students enjoyed a dance lesson, and the amateurish, tentative steps, and accidental collides were humorous and humbling. I watched from a seat in the corner — having been blessed with two left feet — snapping random photos as the group enjoyed the steps.

The post dinner show was anything but banal. The movement of the dancers was exotic and rapid. The dancing choreographed to perfection. The swirling legs, the flashes of skin and beat of the music added a sensual dimension to the beautiful fluidity of movement of bodies in unison.

I am certain it takes hours of practice, hard work, and a single-minded commitment to excellence to be the best at what they do. I think we should all dig a little deeper to excel in our fields of choice. And, of course, turn on the music!
