Dar Yacout

Our small taxi weaved it’s way through the narrow streets, off the beaten path, in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Marrakech.

At a dead end on a dark and dingy side street, we were greeted by an old man in traditional black garb and escorted up a narrow staircase to an era gone by.

We walked into an ancient world of Moroccan artifacts, folklore music and an ancient ambience that was visible through the subtle lighting of what seemed liked a thousand candles, and a cozy fireplace. Welcome to Dar Yacout, one of the finest restaurants in Marrakech.

The tables were strewn with rose petals, the wine was divine and there was enough traditional Moroccan fare to feed an army. The evening was perfect — in every sense of the word.

This journey into the past provided a microscopic glimpse of life during an ancient time. Four hours later we left satiated in every sense of the word. This was probably one of the most unique dining experiences of my life.

Maybe that is why I travel. I seem to learn more about our world, and myself, though these experiences than any book can ever teach me.
