There are always two ways we, as managers, allocate resources. We reward those who work hard and create value or we quiet those who complain constantly and get resources thrown at them so that they go away. The latter are politically inclined, a nuisance at best, and waste valuable time and money.
Focus on those who produce results on a consistent basis. Reward those who demand little, and perform above par. When we reward negative behavior, we become part of the problem. Learning to say NO and refusing to succumb to constant complaining is the first step to establishing a culture of rewarding results, not noise.
If we don’t adapt, even the well oiled machines will start to squeak.
