Doppelgänger

I caught a glimpse of him as he turned the corner and ducked into the back of his SUV to buckle his son into the car seat. It was my buddy Alan, who lost his fight to cancer over a decade ago. Yet it was not. Just an uncanny striking similarity. The profile, the scruffy beard, the hair. All of it. None of it.

I felt a rush of emotion as I made my way to say “Hi” and introduce myself. I told him about Alan. We spoke for a few minutes, and then we went our separate ways. It’s a
“Doppelgänger”, Erika told me. Yes it was! Hate when that happens.

Funny how life throws us curveballs. When an image from the past brings back a rush of memories and emotions, that we work hard to bury in our psyche. Somehow, they surface when they are least expected. Life can be so amazing sometimes, yet so unfair.

This happens to me all the time. He was my family too. I see him everywhere and smile. I can only imagine he is messing with us on purpose 😉
    Love and miss you too

I had the fortune of having Alan as a professor in his last semester teaching. The gentleman definitely looks like Alan- it must have made you stop in your tracks. The people who touch us stay with us in crazy ways
