Interesting statistics presented by graduate student, Phil Michaels, during a class discussion, that people with high emotional intelligence (EQ) are considered to be high performers and make significantly more money in the workplace. The correlation is direct, positive, and based on research.
“It’s the single biggest predictor of performance….and the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence.” In fact, EQ is a better predictor than IQ of long term success.
The goal is not perfection — none of us consistently meet that benchmark. The goal is to learn from our mistakes, take feedback seriously — without putting up our guard — and use our EQ to shape our behavior in the workplace, and in our personal lives.
When we claim perfection, we demonstrate a lack of EQ. Learn to put your ego on hold, focus on your EQ, and it just might put a smile in your bank balance.
