From the Archives — January 2014

The following post is from the blog archives from a year ago (originally published on January 24, 2014 http://www.5oclockreflections.com/with-equity-and-fairness-for-all/).

Fairness

I believe that high performers in any company should we rewarded handsomely for their efforts. I also believe that irrespective of performance, every individual in an organization should be given an opportunity to succeed and that everyone should be treated equitably and fairly.

Too often, playing the political games in the work place allow individuals to garner favor with the powers that be. The sad part? The people in authority fall for this ruse. When we favor some and constantly grease the squeaky wheel, we become part of the problem.

One rarely earns the respect of others through administrative or intellectual excellence – one earns respect by inspiring people to do their best and by not playing favorites. That is a mark of a true leader.
