Girl Power

We owe it to our daughters to give them every opportunity we give our sons. The glass ceiling is real. The gender gaps are real too.

I grew up in a country where the gender gaps created economic chasms — yes, dowry was real. It still is in vast segments of the Indian society.

Closer to home in the good old USA, women have to work twice as hard to get noticed for their ability, get paid less than their male counterparts, and are rarely treated equally for their talents. Antiquated stereotypes of gender roles exist even today. And we say we have made progress as a society. Not really.

From a young age, we must encourage our girls to become confident young women, with the world as their oyster. The only way they will ever learn to believe in themselves, is if we shift the paradigm towards gender equity, right out of the gates.
