Over one billion Hindus the world over celebrate Diwali on the 30th of October, this year. This five-day celebration is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil and the start of the Hindu New Year. Celebrated with a fervor of color and lights, the week is really about prayer, quiet reflection, hope, a promise of a new tomorrow and family bonding. And it’s a time to give to the poor, and the less privileged.
I have vivid memories of many special Diwali celebrations when we would all head home to be with Mom and Dad, and with each other. Now Mom and Dad reside in the heavens above, and my little world in based in Tampa. It’s probably the one day of the year I’d rather be home with my siblings, playing kid brother, basking in the warmth of a security blanket only family can provide. Here we celebrate with quiet gratitude and a void that will remain.
This Diwali season, I wish you all good health, joy, prosperity and happiness. May the Goddess Lakshmi bless your homes and your lives with prosperity, with everything that is beautiful and may love reign supreme in your homes and in your hearts. HAPPY DIWALI.
