Today, I start my 27th year of teaching at The University of Tampa. If nothing else, that singular fact makes me feel old. The good news is that I am still surrounded by young women and men, who never fail to keep me on my toes. There is always a youthful exuberance and intellectual inquisitiveness that brings a college campus alive.
Tomorrow, I head back into the classroom to challenge my students to think differently about their world and to step out of their comfort zones. No books. No exams. No individual glory. Student success will now be driven with how they think, how they work with others, how they respond when the chips are down, and how they flourish in our competitive world.
I am blessed to be at the forefront of this transformation of young minds. Always prodding, pushing, and never giving up on them. I hope they plan to bring their ‘A’ game – I certainly plan to bring mine!
