India Burns

India burns. It burns in the bodies of those who never got the dignity of the final rites of passage.  It burns in the hearts of those who see their loved ones suffer.  It burns in the lungs of those that struggle to breathe.  It was not supposed to be this way.

I see the heart break and the bewilderment in the eyes of my extended Indian family here in my Montessori school community.  They see the suffering of those they love in India. Moms and Dads, brothers and sisters, all struggling to breathe and stay alive. The sadness in their eyes breaks my heart too.  This time it has hit close to home.

The tension and sorrow is palpable. What is frustrating is the sense of hopelessness.  And the inability to help those that we love.  How does this happen in this time and age? How can people struggle to breathe, because a government failed its people? Politicians should be lined up and given the third degree.  Shame on them.

However, this is not about politics.  It’s about human dignity and keeping those we love alive, and getting them the medical help they so desperately need.  In a country like India, where money could solve most problems, one can’t buy hope, or oxygen, or a lifeline.  My heart breaks for my country and my people……..and for those that I love who suffer.

Rusty, I have been listening to the news. I know you said your wife Rohini had gone to India to visit her Mom. I have been worried about them, and kept them in my prayers. Is Rohini home.? Is her family okay?
I miss Judi very much, but I feel her presence.
