Textbook learning and textbook teaching are passé, especially for graduate education. Too many students are driven by grades and completing assignments, as opposed to the meaningful acquisition of knowledge. The flaw is in the system.
I am a strong proponent of inspired teaching, that facilitates inspired learning. As educators, we have a professional and moral responsibility to bring out the best in our students, by adopting novel approaches to teaching, by challenging them to think, and by inspiring them to find their love for learning.
Effective education is never about the teacher. It is always about the student. While it takes two to tango, I focus on the way they learn — not the way I teach.
