You are probably familiar with the notion that we must hire for talent, but retain for character. Malcolm Gladwell is of the opinion that intellect is potentially limiting, and provides a narrow set of skills to succeed in business. Past failures can be better indicators of future success.
I would rather hire those that share the same world view as us. Those that have passion for the same things. Those that “fit” our culture. Those that don’t align with our world view, leave quickly, are never happy and are typically focused on themselves.
Intellectual brilliance is enviable, as long as it is coupled with a degree of emotional intelligence. Otherwise, it is a waste.
