Relationships are hard. Marriage, is even harder. As we celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary today, I can’t help but reflect on what makes the “togetherness” work.
I am clearly no relationship expert, and I have had my personal set of failures and transgressions. What I do know, is that it takes two to tango, and that we must never give up on each other. So glad she never gave up on me.
From my vantage point, successful relationships are based on a healthy dose of compromise, compassion, and most importantly — love and friendship. Winning idealistic battles can result in a bunch of hollow victories. Losing the personal battles can be the ace that saves the day.
At the end of the day, looking for reasons to stay and making relationships work are far more inspirational than looking for reasons to leave. Quitting is easy. Honoring the commitment is significantly more difficult, yet meaningful. I came out ahead on this one. And it’s a thing of beauty. Cheers to the next 29!
