It’s a Dog’s Life?

Sleeping_Dogs
I had three sets of eager eyes track my every move while I fried eggs for breakfast this morning. In retrospect, they were less concerned with my efforts, more hoping that I would spill my breakfast on the floor. My dogs — yes, all three of them — have been a joy in my life. I don’t believe I just said that… (I can visualize my wife gloating as she reads this post; this love for dogs is all because of her!)

While we had dogs growing up, my mom — God Bless her Soul — never allowed them in our home. As a result, I did go through the growing pains of learning to live with these fur balls. Now I even allow one of them to give me two feet of parallel space on my king size bed, as she snuggles up against my feet to keep warm.

I think I am a better person for having become a dog lover. I always joke about how much I hate dogs, but the reality is that I have learned a lot from them. I have learned about unconditional love, about taking time to smell the roses (or in their case anything they can get near their noses) and about sleeping with total abandon.

They hate going to the vet, with the same passion I hate going to my doctor — both necessary evils. They believe that a “treat” can make up for just about any human shortcoming, and that the closet can protect them from any storm.

Next time you feel down, or overwhelmed, or happy, just love a dog. You will be a better person for it.

Remember the band ” Three Dog Night”, they chose their band’s name by the Eskimo’s reputation for sleeping with their huskies to stay warm. If it was a really cold night, you slept with 3 dogs that night! Dogs have many useful purposes.
