“It’s Over There”

“It’s over there”, she said, pointing into the distance. It left me as confused as I was when I had initially asked for help. That was my experience at the local Walmart, where a ten minute errand turned into a forty minute ordeal.

Ever seen one of those TV shows where people run around with shopping carts to gather their wares to earn a prize? There was no prize here. Just a frantic back and forth looking for help and project items that practically none of the “Associates” knew anything about. They pointed and told me it was “there”. Could it be that they are trained to do so?

On the phone, laughing uncontrollably almost the entire time, was Judi. Finally I found a young lady who helped me. At the end of the day, it was amusing — yet sad.

If you really want to help someone, pointing in a general direction is never helpful. Most of us struggle to locate “there” on a map, or in a store. A little bit of specificity goes a long way in satisfying the customer.
