It’s Tougher on Them

I taught my first set of online classes today. I wish they had been in better circumstances. I quickly realized that this has been tougher on the students, than it has been on us Professors.

The uncertainty of what lies ahead has been unnerving. Most of my students are scheduled to graduate. Commencement has been cancelled, the job market looks awfully bleak, and many of them are worried about their families, as small business owners.

These times are far from normal. Our world is in the midst of a major crisis. A vast number of my students, in their early twenty’s are still very very young. This is their time to shine. To celebrate their successes and take on the world. Life’s cruel hand has put their celebration on hold.

It was not supposed to be this way. For now, they need our emotional support. And our unconditional commitment.
