These are difficult times. The world seems to be caving in all around us. The news is dismal, and the suffering is real. In all this doom and tragedy, we must find pockets of joy and plenty of hope.
Joy that stems from the innocent snuggles of my puppy; the blooming of the flowers; a genuine belief in the human spirit that goodness will prevail, and that this too shall pass. The road ahead may be dark, but a beautiful sunrise is around the corner.
We must keep hope alive. For the medical professionals who toil to save lives of the weakest of the weak. For my students who face uncertain futures, but have promise on the horizon. For those that have lost their jobs, and struggle to take care of those that they love. They will all prevail. They will all blossom. It will take time. Hope is the cornerstone of our world.
As Franklin D. Roosevelt said eloquently, “We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.” A not too distant tomorrow will be beautiful.
Joy and Hope
