I could feel my eyes become moist as I watched the story of Jim Kelly, NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback, fighting to stay alive as he battles cancer. Multiple surgeries, no taste buds, no saliva, but an indomitable spirit and a family that has stood by his side every step of the way.
My heart went out to his wife, Jill, as she spoke in quiet tones of the loss of her young 4-year-old-son, and now this. The pain visible in her eyes, as she grappled with her loss and what tomorrow might bring. I can’t imagine her reality, or the daily challenge of his survival.
As a parent, I won’t allow my mind to go there — not sure how any one lives with the pain that rips your heart out. Time to count my blessings and say a silent prayer for those that suffer due to sickness or immeasurable loss.
I always knew football players were physically strong, but being #KellyTough epitomizes a level of toughness that is not for the weak of heart, or spirit.
